Can Birds Eat Marshmallows?
Marshmallows are dangerous for birds due to extreme sugar concentration, which disrupts crop flora and promotes yeast infections. The sticky, spongy material can cause crop impaction, and any xylitol is rapidly fatal. Birds have fast metabolisms; a small amount of sugar alcohol leads to hypoglycemic shock within minutes. Additionally, the aeration agents can cause gastrointestinal gas buildup, leading to discomfort and potential organ compression. This confectionery has no place in an avian diet.
