Can Cats Eat Jelly Beans?
Jelly beans are unequivocally dangerous for cats. Sugar-free versions containing xylitol cause precipitous drops in blood glucose and acute hepatic necrosis, which are often fatal. The high sugar content in regular jelly beans can induce severe diarrhea and vomiting, while the hard shell is a choking risk. Cats possess no sweet taste receptors and find no pleasure in candy, making the risk-benefit ratio abysmal. Any jelly bean ingestion by a cat should be treated as a potential emergency.
