Can Small Pets Eat Jelly Beans?
Jelly beans are extremely hazardous to small pets. The sugar overwhelms delicate digestive systems, causing bloat and fatal diarrhea in rabbits and guinea pigs. Xylitol, if present, is lethal in trace amounts for all small mammals. Hamsters may pack the beans into their cheek pouches, leading to impacted, infected tissue. Even the dyes and glazes contain compounds that small livers cannot metabolize. No small animal species should ever be given a jelly bean.
