Can Small Pets Eat Marshmallows?
Marshmallows present a severe health risk for small mammals. In rabbits and guinea pigs, the sugar causes a rapid overgrowth of clostridial bacteria, leading to fatal enterotoxemia and bloat. Hamsters and rats face xylitol poisoning, which is lethal at minuscule doses. The sticky consistency can also obstruct the digestive tract or stick in cheek pouches. No small pet should ever be given marshmallows, regardless of sweetener type.
